A word from the Chairman

On 15th December 2013, South Sudan was visited by ogre of violence that engulfed the young nation. The conflict that began in Juba quickly spread to other parts especially in the three States of the Greater Upper Nile Region (Upper Nile, Unity and Jonglei) causing untold anguish. Like any other humanitarian As a result of the vehemence, SSUDA lost 80% (either fled to POCs, neighboring Countries, or disappeared without trace) of its qualified and experience local staff, some of whom had been capacity built by SSUDA and its partners over the years.

SSUDA’s own office in Juba (Hai Mangateen) was vandalized and destroyed, the same happened to our field offices in Malakal and Ulang. Due to the impact of conflict, our projects in Warrap including office in Kuajok was suspended. SSUDA had to start from the scratch. Despite the challenges, SSUDA has moved on very well, thanks to the support we received from our dedicated partners that stood with us and ensured that we restored and rebuilt the organization.
Today, SSUDA has remained one of the most active national NGOs particularly in Upper Nile. We continue to implement respond to very critical life-saving needs of most vulnerable men, women and children in hard-to-reach areas in Upper Nile State. agencies, SSUDA was caught between responding to crisis to save lives and to rescuing our local staff who were fleeing to POCs or neighboring Countries for fear of their lives. I want to take this opportunity specifically to thank Cordaid for their unwavering financial and technical support for institutional capacity building since 2010 and during the crisis. I also thank our current partners; UNMISS, CHF, EU, AECOM among others.
At SSUDA, we the programme team are committed to build a strong efficient and accountable organization that responds to the needs of vulnerable community with respect and dignity. We look forward to work with others to contribute to a healthy, just and empowered society of South Sudan.
